When I was a young girl, my maternal grandmother would periodically send my family a care package filled with an assortment of treats, sweets, and home essentials. We looked forward to its arrival, most especially, in times of need. My paternal grandmother shared her gift of prayer with us. She taught me about the saints, particularly St. Therese, whose little way of making a positive impact made a deep impression on me. Both women blessed my life in different ways. These experiences not only remain fond memories of my youth but became the inspiration for my founding Little Way Ministries.

Little Way Ministries, a 501(c)(3) organization, seeks to assist the less fortunate by providing in-kind donations each quarter and financial assistance each month to various charitable organizations here and abroad. This ministry is particularly passionate about the plight of the homeless, and children who have been neglected and abused.  It is based on the spirituality of St. Therese of Lisieux, known for her little way of doing small or ordinary things with extraordinary love. My mission to live out the scriptural verse of Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me,” is my little way of making a difference in the lives of those in need.

Little Way Ministries thoughtfully prepares and delivers with love, care packages to various organizations to meet the needs on their wish lists. Packages may be filled with an assortment of items including food, games, school supplies, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and home essentials, depending on each organization’s specific needs. Some of the organizations we help include:

Casa de Amparo:

Supports those affected by and at risk for child abuse and neglect through programs that support health and growth.

Family Assistance Ministries:

Aids people in need of food, shelter, and personal coaching on their journey to independence.

Serra's Pantry Food Bank and Outreach:

Each year new organizations will become recipients of care packages from Little Way Ministries as we become aware of their needs and donations allow. If you know of an organization in need, please email me at kathy@littlewayministries.org.

St. Therese of Lisieux

st. Therese

A little about the spirituality of my inspiration,
St. Therese of Lisieux:

At the age of 15, St. Therese gained early admission to the convent to become a cloistered Carmelite nun. Her spirituality emphasized first and foremost, the primacy of love for God. The value of redemptive suffering, humility, and littleness were foundational elements of this spirituality. Its essence was her great confidence and trust in God’s love and mercy. She routinely practiced mortification, detachment, and contemplative and communal prayer. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother was profound and her love for God so intense that she yearned to live a sacrificial life and be a martyr for Him.

St. Therese believed that great love, not great deeds, is what makes us holy.  She understood that although much of our life may be boring or routine, we have an opportunity in each moment to grow in grace and holiness by performing our duties faithfully and for the love of God.

Sadly, she died at the young age of 24 of tuberculosis on September 30, 1897. She was canonized in 1925 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1997 by Pope John Paul II. St. Therese is the patron saint of missions and the secondary patron of France.
